Keeping Track of Configurations Is a Tall Order
Managing today’s complex, far-reaching networks centers around one essential function: ensure that the countless devices from a multitude of vendors are properly configured to maintain the health and stability of your network. One improperly configured device can be a headache, but two or more errant connections could result in a full-blown IT meltdown.
According to recent industry reports, more than 50% of network failures are due to devices being improperly configured, either during initialization or upgrades to compliance and policy revisions. And if it's a catastrophic failure, that means not just reconfiguring the devices in question, but every single device on the network. The costs to productivity and revenue are simply staggering.
NetMRI Gives You Real Power Over Configuration Management
Every time someone adds a new device to the network there's a good chance for error. Not only must the configuration follow manufacturer’s specifications, which can vary widely, but it must also comply with changing industry and governmental standards, as well as your own corporate policies.
Netcordia addresses all of these configuration challenges with a smart, flexible, and automated solution. Through our NetMRI platform, you can catalogue configurations, monitor changes, enforce policy and standards, and even execute changes whenever necessary—quickly and easily.
Using the Policy Enforcement function in NetMRI, your engineers can make rapid changes across multiple devices from different vendors without significant programming, all from a single, centralized platform. You can also create your own custom best practices, based on your unique demands, to augment the expert best practices that have been “pre-built” into NetMRI.
NetMRI Archives the Past as It Manages the Present
The NetMRI configuration management solution maintains copies of current and previous configurations, archiving your network’s history so that you can revert to an earlier configuration at any time. This function can be a powerful troubleshooting tool when adding new devices or altering your network. You can also use it as a failsafe backup system to help restore the network in the event of a major failure.
NetMRI will automatically alert you of any deviation from policy on any device, as well as proactively detect all configuration changes. All configurations can be compared visually against any previous configuration, so you can quickly identify the device or devices that are responsible for disturbances in the network.
Shouldn’t your network’s configurations be monitored, archived, and under your control?
Configuration Management in Action:
NetMRI Ensures Freshness and Quality in Food Processing
A food processing company's network linked together hundreds of temperature- and time-sensitive machines. Communications among the many processing departments began to suffer due to a number of network disruptions-which adversely affected productivity and overall food quality.
The company installed a Netcordia solution to help pinpoint the exact cause for delays. It turned out that because so many machines were being decommissioned for repair or replaced with newer equipment-and time was of the essence-the network was not properly reconfigured for each change, resulting in significant interruptions.
NetMRI detected various configuration discrepancies as they happened during equipment changeovers, allowing engineers at the plant to re-configure the errant devices in a timely manner. This prevented processing breaks and greatly reduced incidences of product spoilage and contamination, increasing productivity and quality throughout the plant.
